Preschool Storyhour

Registration for the Winter/Spring session is underway!

Preschool Storyhour begins on Wednesday, March 4 with a celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Parents may choose to register their three-to-five year-olds for Wednesday morning or afternoon sessions. Morning session are held from 10:30 - 11:30 am and afternoon sessions are held from 1:30 - 2:30 pm.

Each class is designed to promote the wonderful world of books through the use of stories, songs, finger plays, and games that center on a special theme. Stretching exercises are done halfway through each class, and a simple craft project is completed each week to be taken home.

Classes will continue through May 6.

Children must be at least three years of age at the time of registration. This program is free and open to the public. For more information or to register, stop at the library or phone 724-238-6451,


  CHILDREN'S CHESS TOURNAMENT


Children's Chess Tournament
Saturday, March 14, beginning at 10:30 am

The Ligonier Valley Library is now accepting registrations for a children's chess tournament to be held Saturday, March 14, beginning at 10:30 am.

Children in grade eight and under who live in the Ligonier Valley School District are invited to compete for trophies in the junior (grade 4 and under) and senior (grade 5, 6, 7, and 8) divisions.

Participants must register by Friday, March 13 at 5:00 pm.

Participants should bring a bag lunch, however, a morning snack will be provided by the library. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own chess set.

Chess champion Ed Surma will officiate the five-game, round-robin play. First and second place winners of each division will be invited to participate in the Westmoreland County System Chess Tournament finals on Saturday, March 28, at the County System Center in Greensburg.
