Can I Eat That? The Wonders and Dangers of Foraging

Ever wondered if that mushroom you just walked past would taste absolutely scrumptious, or just end up being the worst decision of your life if you tasted it? Or what about that beautiful-smelling vine you just broke open? Has your brain ever just yelled at you to lick a rock? Monica Rebar, one of the Westmoreland Land Trust’s AmeriCorps Service Members, will give a presentation on foraging, followed by an open discussion where she will tell you all about the wonders and dangers of the edible in nature. While self-taught, Monica grew up in the Laurel Highlands and knows the area and its native plants and critters well. Following the discussion, on Saturday, May 17th, we will visit St. Xavier Nature Preserve in Latrobe (near St. Vincent) to put what we learned to work. All experiences are welcome and encouraged! We can’t wait to see you there!
The time for the St. Xavier Walk is tbd. The rain date is the following Saturday, May 24th.
