Carla Ruddock is the Director of Conservation at the Mountain Watershed Association (MWA).  After nearly 10 years with MWA, she is responsible for the oversight and management of their abandoned mine drainage treatment systems, water sampling program, in-house bacteria lab, among other duties.

The impact of mining on Western Pennsylvania cannot be understated. Where this industry goes, it leaves behind abandoned mine drainage (AMD)—a type of pollution that will remain an issue for generations to come. Mining operations do not take on the responsibility for treating AMD. Instead, communities, if they want clean water, need to take on this burden. Join us in the Ligonier Valley Library's Community Room to hear about how the Mountain Watershed Association treats AMD and how they monitor their progress using ecological research.
